LN 4-8-2 #412 - Louisville & Nashville RR  Contributor's Pick!       
This resplendent Mountain-type locomotive was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1926. Classified by L&N as an L-1 class, it had 69" drivers and could generate 200 psi for its 27"x30" cylinders. The engine weight was 333,100 lb and it could produce a tractive effort of 53,883 lb. After serving nearly 30 years, the loco was retired in the mid-1950's. No photographer was listed for this beautiful photo and the day in July of 1935 is approximate.
