Album Info:These are part of a large collection of St Louis-San Francisco photos recently acquired. Most of these photos were small 2 1/2" x 4 1/4" size. The commonality is these 4-8-2's were all built by Baldwin between 1923-1926.

Description:  Beautiful, solid and powerful was this Baldwin 4-8-2 Mountain type steam locomotive built as SLSF #1505 in March of 1923 ( serial #56269, class T-54). The T-54s were found to be well liked by engine crews, dispatchers, and the motive power department. As they were true general-purpose locomotives, they were well suited for use in hotshot freight service, fast passenger service, or even local runs . No location, date or photographer was listed for the photo.

One online source states " Some of their passenger runs were impressively long and included St Louis to Oklahoma City (542 miles/873 km) and Kansas City to Birmingham (737 miles/1,187 km) without engine change."
