Description:
The engineer in the cab window is dwarfed by the massive 4-6-6-4 Challenger type steam locomotive stretching in front of him. History - Alco-Schenectady, 6/1943, serial #70180.After almost 18 years of service, the loco was "vacated" March of 1961. Specs - 69" drivers, impressive 280 psi boiler pressure, four 21x32" cylinders, engine weight of 633,500 lb and tractive effort of 97,350 lb. The phot is by Glenn H. Davis.
