The 2053 curves around the UW Heater plant tracks and is about to cross Dayton street. It was hard to hold the camera steady- the 2053 has a very loud horn, and the engineer was laying on it heavily for this crossbuck-only crossing. Out of the shot to my left and right are many UW-Madison students darting across the tracks in front of the train. They're familiar with the prospect of being slightly delayed by the switching moves here and would rather walk in front of a moving train and it's blaring horn than wait a minute or so. |

WSOR 2053 trundles by Olbrich Park on the Cottage Grove sub. There will be no ice skaters on the rink today- the high today was 51 degrees (F), quite tropical for this time of year in Wisconsin. The train will soon arrive at Junction A, where WSOR's Waterloo sub connects to the Cottage Grove Sub. This train, the MABLT, has some cars to pick up off of the Waterloo Sub at the junction before returning to the yard. |

Description: |
Having pulled a boxcar off of the Madison Central (Cold?) Storage spur, the 3-person crew makes a shove back to Royster Clark to do some switching before returning to the E. Johnson St. yard in Madison. This line used to belong to the Chicago and North Western Railway, and enters Madison from the east. It was the CNW's Milwaukee (Waukesha) to Madison mainline, but now all that remains on the Madison end is the short stub to Cottage Grove. |

It's Sunday afternoon, and a WSOR crew takes 24 WSOR covered hoppers out the Waterloo line. This location is known as Junction A, and it's where the Waterloo line branches off from the Cottage Grove sub. The Waterloo line, ex-MILW, was once the route of the Milwaukee-Madison Hiawathas. The Cottage Grove sub was CNW's Milwaukee-Madison line. The WSOR now operates both lines. |

Cool morning at the yard |
Description: |
Two SD40-2s and an SD20 idle on the main with a Janesville train while the 3806 waits further back in the yard. WSOR's business train is at the right, and two of their bi-levels accompany a privately-owned car. |

WSOR 4005 and gang on JM |
Description: |
The JM crew pulls a cut of WSOR sand hoppers out the north end of the E. Johnson street yard. The gondola to the right with the FRED hanging on the rear is the last car on the MJ train. The sand hoppers that the JM crew are pulling will end up on the MJ, along with some other cars that haven't yet entered the yard. |

Rise and Shine |
Description: |
The sun's just peaking over the clouds on the horizon this morning as the JM heads through the isthmus. The crew has a heavy train of 82 cars this morning. The train is about to cross Ingersoll street with some of Madison's priciest condos for a backdrop. |

Morning Dew |
Description: |
The JM crew is less than a mile from E. Johnson street and the WSOR's yard there. The sun had a brief stretch and yawn before pulling the cloudy covers back over its face this morning, evidenced by the barely visible capitol building in the background. The capitol looked amber in color less than 10 seconds before I took this shot, precisely why I came to this location. No biggie though... the 82-car train was a good enough show on its own. |
