Title:
PRR 6409, J-1A, c. 1955
Description:
Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1955. The photographer is not identified. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6409, a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during June of 1943 and retired in August of 1958 after just 15 years of revenue service. It's rounding the Curve with a mixed-cargo freight train on its way down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. ("LouisFols"; #6 of 15)
