Here was Pennsylvania Railroad parlor-observation car 7125 QUEEN MARY on 5 October 1964, painted red, white and blue for use on the LADY BIRD SPECIAL. The car entered service on 23 May 1925 and, along with twin QUEEN ANNE, was built for operation on the Lehigh Valley's BLACK DIAMOND. It was air conditioned on 13 June 1934 and, as of 1 January 1937, was assigned to the Wabash. Wabash purchased the car on 31 December 1945 and immediately leased it back to Pullman for operation, withdrew it from Pullman lease on 22 January 1949, then sold it to the PRR on 15 March 1949 who returned it to Pullman lease. It was withdrawn from Pullman lease for the final time on 1 October 1956, became Penn Central business car 31 in 1968 and was subsequently sold to CITRO’S 1900 GASLIGHT RESTAURANT in Wayne, New Jersey. It was scrapped when CITRO’S closed. |
