Volkmer. Here is an image of a photo by William D. Volkmer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 23 September 1959. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9597 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton. #9597 is a BF-16 constructed in April of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, they're pulling a mixed-cargo freight train and are about to pass under Juniata's 8th Street Bridge and enter the Westbound Forwarding Yard for crew changes. William E.
