| Amtrak train No. 1 – the westbound SUNSET LIMITED – was awaiting its 1 a.m. departure from New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal behind Southern Pacific FP7 6457, F7B units 8290 and 8294, and FP7 6459. The 11-car train consisted of baggage car 1102, sleeper 2013 ORIOLE (being used as a dormitory car), high-level coaches 9920, 9943, 9932 and 9900, lounge car 3360, Northern Pacific dining car 463, and sleepers 2351 REGAL INN, 2780 CUMBERLAND COUNTY and Southern 2016 ST.
