AHC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1968. The photographer is not identified. Prominent here is Penn Central engine #6177 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are SD45's built by GM-EMD for the Pennsylvania Railroad and rated at 3,600 horsepower each. #6177 was constructed in December of 1967. They're climbing the Allegheny Mountains and rounding the Curve with a mixed-cargo freight train. Note that the train's on Track 2, which is usually reserved for eastbound traffic. Partially visible at the far right is K-4S "Pacific" #1361. |
