With B&M 4-4-0 #1029 missing its headlight, number boards, rods and bell, the loco must be on its way to the scrapper's torch. Built in 1911 by Alco-Manchester, the loco was the last of the A-41 class to be built. These 4-4-0's were used primarily in suburban service but #1029 only got a chance to serve 22 years. Specs - class A-41, 69" drivers, 190 psi boiler pressure, 18x24" cylinders, modest engine weight of 115,000 lb, very modest tractive effort of 18,200 lb. Joseph Lavelle photo |
