PRR 6869, M-1, c. 1929
Here is a photo related to the fatal wreck at the Pennsylvania Railroad's New Portage Junction in Duncansville, Pennsylvania, on 6 November 1916. Photo courtesy of Ms. Constance M. Holland Cullison, who states that "My grandfather Theodore Berdine Holland was an Engineman for the PA RR Co. On the back of another photo, he has written '47 cars, 5 engines, 7 men killed.' In the photo shown here, he is in the front row left kneeling, light coveralls. I believe these men were there helping with the accident." Parked behind them is PRR engine #6869, an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in October of 1926 and retired in November of 1955 after 29 years of service. (This locomotive wasn't even built when the wreck occurred, so the focus is on the Railroaders who took part in the salvage operation.)
