LN 4-8-2 #400 - Louisville & Nashville
Definitely a sad sight with this Baldwin 4-8-2 Light Mountain steam locomotive sitting in the scrap line waiting for the torch. Built in December of 1925, the massive and powerful loco was put to work hauling passengers. Barred by bridge loading limits from operating further south, the 4-8-2s later added Louisville-East St Louis trains and even freights. They saw out steam on the L & N, retiring in the mid-1950s. Specs - serial #58877, class L-1, 69" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 333,100 lb, tractive effort of 53,883 lb. Max Miller photo
