PRR 6816, M-1, #1 of 2, 1956
Huntingdon. Here is the first of two successive duplicate 35mm color slides by Nelson Bowers that were taken near Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, in January of 1956. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6816, an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during September of 1926 and retired in June of 1959 after 33 years of faithful service. The head-end brakeman has made the cut between the tender, and will soon throw the switch so as to pick-up the boxcar on the left.
