The Long Island had a short spur into the Brookhaven National Labs off the Main Line at Yaphank. They didnt do much there, but during WW I, this was Camp Upton, and embarkation point for troops going to Europe-and subject of the song "Yip Yip Yaphank". The parlor car fantrip that ran to Greenport in May 1981 covered the line. |
