SP #1011 (on loan to Pacific Electric)  Contributor's Pick!
A very confusing search for info has this diesel starting out with the Nashville, Chattanooga & St Louis line, merging into the L&N, sold to Souther Pacific and loaned to Pacific Electric. Eventually rebuilt into a road slug. But parts of the research don't completely mesh well. No information was listed on the backs of these photos. It appears like this day it's doing some street running with a string of SP passenger cars. Can anyone help with this one?

Rick Morgan General Gary- I believe this is SW1 1011, which was leased to PE. The cars look a lot like the GM Train of Tomorrow; and the wig-wags are a nice touch. 10/27/2013 10:07:25 AM
Mike Woodruff General GM Train of Tomorrow was my first thought too, but the fluting doesn't match. The fluting and window patterns do match the Santa Fe "Pleasure Domes" which were introduced on the "Super Chief" in 1950. In June 1952, Warner Bros. Pictures released Three for Bedroom "C", a romantic comedy starring Gloria Swanson, James Warren, Fred Clark, Hans Conried, and Steve Brodie. In the film, an aging movie star (Swanson) hides out in a compartment during a cross-country journey from New York to Los Angeles aboard the Super Chief. For this picture the Santa Fe provided actual railroad cars, including a Pleasure Dome. Perhaps in this photo, PE 1011 is delivering the cars to the filming location? 5/21/2019 3:40:16 PM
