Thirty-six-seat diner 8034 was originally Santa Fe 1483, one of ten cars (1475-1484) completed under Budd Lot No. 976 in May 1937. Half of the cars were retired between 1968 and 1970, while the other half became Amtrak 8030-8034 in 1971. Amtrak remodeled this car with 46 seats. This w`s one of very few pre-WWII cars initially purchased by Amtrak, and was acquired because the Santa Fe wanted to sell all of its lightweight cars as a package deal. The 8034 was photographed on the SUNSET LIMITED, and was sold in 1981. |
