| Although it hadn't yet been officially retired, Milwaukee Road 2-8-2 #559 was found sitting in the scrap line at the Bensenville yard. History - Baldwin, 11/1920 serial #54146 class L-2a nee-MILW 8259, renumbered in 6/1938 to MILW 559. After nearly 34 years of service the loco was retired in December of 1954 and eventually scrapped. Specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine wt of 287,600 lb, tractive effort of 54,723 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
