Cantilever Contemplations Editors Pick!
BNSF 7617 brings a westbound manifest over the top of the grade from Belen past Dalies, junction with the old passenger main via Raton Pass, where several classic Santa Fe cantilevers still stand with their ornate metal framework and right-side display alluding to the era of long boilers or geep-style cabs. So many of these aesthetically appealing cantilevers have fallen that their once ubiquitous presence about the system is now a matter of the unique and of almost quaint reflection upon a different era when each railroad had its individual character and style.

Bernie Feltman General David is correct - wonderfully written caption. The condensing of the railroad network into a small number of Class 1's results in standardization that isn't really welcome to those of us nostalgic types 5/30/2010 5:24:59 PM
