B&O GP9 6046, Chicago, Illinois, October 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Number 6046 was built in April 1956 as C&O 6046 (c/n 21536) on EMD Order 5448, later became B&O 6046 and was sold for scrap in March 1987. It is seen crossing the former GM&O and AT&SF tracks to Alton Junction (to the right) where the GM&O would head to Union Station and the AT&SF would head to Dearborn Station. This is a transfer run on the rails of the former Illinois Northern (a terminal railroad of the AT&SF), having just crossed over I-55 (Stevenson Expressway) and is approaching AT&SF's Corwith Yard. |
