C&S 2-8-2 Class E-4A 803
Colorado & Southern Railway 2-8-2 Class E-4A 803, at Cheyenne, Wyoming, on an unknown day in October 1957, Kodachrome by Dick Rumbolz, Chuck Zeiler collection. Built by Baldwin in 1911 (c/n 35897) it had 26.5 X 30 cylinders, 57 inch drivers, weighed 283340 pounds. It was sold for scrap sometime after June 1959. In 1910, Baldwin built 50 class O-1 2-8-2's for C&S parent CB&Q, so it's possible that this locomotive is a copy of that design. The C&S had five E-4A 2-8-2's on its roster, numbers 800-804.

William Barber General The scrapping date for this locomotive is incorrect. Several other rail fans and I photographed C&S #803 under steam at Cheyenne in June, 1959. It was being readied for an afternoon switch job. I do not know when this locomotive was removed from the C&S roster and scrapped. 3/22/2013 7:18:37 PM
Chuck Zeiler General Thanks for the update, I used the sold for scrap date as listed in the book, 'Steam Locomotives Of The Burlington Route', by Bernard G. Corbin and William F. Kerka. I will correct my information. I'd like to see your photos. 3/22/2013 9:00:55 PM
