USAX Troop Sleeper #7256 |
Description: |
One of the display cars at the Hooiser Valley RR museum is US Army troop sleeper #7256. These sleepers were built by Pullman-Standard based on 50 foot boxcars. Each car would sleep 29 troopers and came with a Pullman porter in charge of accommodations. Minimal lighting and ventilation meant the cars were dark and stuffy. |

USAX Troop Sleeper #7256 |

Here is another view of the 3 tier bedding that would have filled the car while serving as a troop sleeper during WW II. Built by Pullman-Standard from 50' boxcars, they were dark and lacked much ventilation but they got the job done in transporting our servicemen. |
