Although listed in the RRPA data base as 2-8-8-4 (no choice for 2-8-8-2), this is 2-8-8-2 Mallet Consolidation cab forward Southern Pacific #4014 built by Baldwin in November of 1989. Specs - serial #34095, class MC-2, 57" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" high pressure cylinders,40x30" low pressure cylinders, engine weight of 437,000 lb, tractive effort of 85,040 lb, oil burner. The class was simplified to the same size cylinders by 1931 and reclassified as AC class (Articulated Consolidations). Most of the class was retired and scrapped between 1947-48. Description: |
The locomotive is an MC-6 manufactured by Baldwin in 1912. The MC-6's were assigned the road numbers 3029-3043. Espee had previously purchased Baldwin "cab forwards" in the following model designations: MC-1, MC-2, and MC-4 that go back to 1908. Thanks to Mark Redmond (and friend) for this info. |
