Description:
With its massive "elephant ear" smoke deflactors, Union Pacific 4-8-4 Northern #809 has a European steam locomotive look to it. History - Alco-Schenectady, 8/1937 Specs - serial #68817, class FEF-1, massive 77" drivers, impressive 300 psi boiler pressure, 24.5x32" cylinders, engine weight of 465,000 lb, tractive effort of 63,611 lb. The loco was "vacated" in May of 1958. The photo is from the Howard W. Ameling collection. No date was given so an approximate one was used.
