Description:  I had just seen a train with CNW power. Always a good thing, but Texans are more familiar with these units, though the CR SD 60 may be a little foreign to them. The trailing unit is one of the ex MP units UP removed the controls from and desgnated as a trailing only unit. Note the "B" in the numberboard to indicate such.

Description:  One place I liked to stop when heading west was at the rest area on I 70 near Paxico Kan. The facilities are between the east and westbound lanes, which are grade separated. The rest area is thus elevated, making a great place to get a good view of the action. Here we see an eastbound on the Golden State route behind a mix of power.

Description:  The UP line from Kansas City to Denver was never a heavy hitter in the transcontinental lineup, largely due to no outlet at Denver-all the overland traffic went through Cheyenne. It did become a good way to get coal east, since trains coming off the Colorado coal lines could go straight into KC and connections, and stay out of the way of the high priority trains. Heres a coal train at Cheyenne Wells behind an SP unit. still a common sight at the time.
